  1. Most IIMs have shifted to Written Ability Test from Group Discussions as part of the written test (hence the name GWPI).
  2. Most of the new IIMs conduct a common WAT-PI process.
  3. The weightage of academic background and work experience varies from institute to institute and year to year.
IITsCAT + Own GDPI process
  1. IIT Bombay typically shortlists candidates with percentiles above 98, followed by IIT Delhi, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Madras, IIT Kanpur, etc. Each institute has different selection criteria. For instance, IIT Bombay assigns 20% weightage to CAT score, 44% to WAT-PI, and 36% to profile.
  2. Most IITs only consider engineering graduates or those in their final year of engineering. However, IIT Madras and IIT Delhi also allow candidates from non-engineering backgrounds.
SP Jain Institute of Management & ResearchCAT / GMAT + Own Group Interview Process
  1. The institute issues two separate call lists: profile-based calls, which can be issued before CAT results, and score + profile-based calls.
  2. The institute asks for your preferred specialization at the time of application.
Institutes conducting their own exams (IIFT, TISS, MICA, etc.)Own exam + GWPI process
  1. IIFT conducts its entrance test in November, with results announced in December. The GWPI process usually takes place in January-February.
  2. MICA considers CAT scores and conducts its own exam, MICAT. Shortlisted candidates receive preliminary selection status at the end of the GDPI process: Selected, Waitlisted, or Rejected.
  3. TISS admits candidates for various "Master of Arts" programs and follows a unique pedagogy with up to three internships. TISSNET and TISSMAT are entrance exams for their MA in HRM and LR program, usually conducted in January-February.
Institutes for specific categories of students (NITIE, SIOM)NITIE – CAT based, SIOM – SNAP Based
  1. These institutes only admit engineers. The cutoff for NITIE is 97+ overall percentile with around 90 percentile sectionals for general category students.
Maharashtra state level B-schoolsMHCET/CAT
  1. 85% of seats in these B-schools are reserved for Maharashtrians, while the remaining 15% are open to everyone.
Institutes with religion-based reservation (Loyola, Rizvi, etc.)LIBA-XAT + GDPI, Rizvi-CMAT, CAT, XAT
  1. These are minority institutes that reserve 50% of the seats.
  2. At Rizvi, 50% of admissions are conducted by DTE Maharashtra, and the rest by the B-school authorities.
Group of institutes conducting an exam (SIBM, SIIB, SCMHRD, etc.)SNAP + Own GDPI process
  1. You need to apply separately to each college you wish to join.
  2. Some of these B-schools also conduct Group Tasks as part of the GWPI process.
  3. SNAP-based institutes generally complete their admission process and release final results first.
