An Insight Into Sectoral MBA Programs
There are, broadly speaking, two types of MBA programs - Regular MBA and Sectoral MBA.
A regular MBA program provides a broad knowledge base applicable across various sectors and industries, allowing graduates to secure jobs in diverse fields. In contrast, a sector-specific MBA focuses on the needs of 1-2 specific industries. As a result, graduates from sectoral MBA programs typically find employment only within those targeted industries.
If you have a clear idea of the job, role, or industry you want to pursue, a sectoral MBA program could be a good fit. These programs often lead to careers within the same sector, though there are some exceptions.
However, some sectoral MBA programs, like an MBA in International Business, provide job opportunities across multiple industries, similar to a regular MBA.
It’s advisable to choose these programs from reputable B-schools. Lower-tier institutions may not offer the same level of education or placement opportunities.
Any one who is not sure of which industry/ domain they would like to work in or any one who wishes to work in multiple industries during course of their professional career must opt for a regular MBA program.
